How do you fasten a cable tie?

A cable tie closes with a self-locking ratchet closure. Once you push the pointed end through the head and it passes the first tooth, the strap can no longer move back. You tighten the tie by hand or use a cable tie tool, which pulls the strap to a preset tension and cuts off the excess end flush right away.

Can I tighten the cable tie by hand or do I need a tool?

Both work. By hand you simply pull the tie tight; with a cable tie tool you tighten it to a preset, even tension and cut the end off flush in the same action.

Are black cable ties suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, the black version contains a UV-stabilising additive and is therefore resistant to sunlight. Natural/white ties are mainly intended for indoor use.

What is this cable tie resistant to?

The polyamide 6.6 is UV-stabilised and resistant to diluted acids and oils. The tie can be used at temperatures of approximately -40 to +80 °C, suitable for most indoor and outdoor applications.
