The right machine stretch film depends on the type of pallet, the weight of the load and the settings of the pallet wrapper. For light pallets, a thinner stretch film is often sufficient, while heavier or unstable pallets require thicker machine stretch film with a higher stretch percentage.
Which machine stretch film do you need?
When choosing machine stretch film, the film thickness, stretch percentage and application are especially important. Not every pallet requires the same film. It is also important to know which stretch percentage your pallet wrapper is suitable for. If the pallet wrapper is suitable for film with a 150% stretch percentage, it makes little sense to order machine film with a stretch percentage of 250% or even higher. The film cannot then be stretched fully, which means you actually use more film than necessary.
Machine stretch film for light pallets
17 my machine stretch film is often chosen for light and stable pallets. This film is suitable for standard transport and limited film consumption.
Machine stretch film for standard pallets
20 my machine film is widely used for general warehouse and transport applications. This thickness offers a good balance between strength and film consumption.
Machine stretch film for heavy pallets
23 my or 35 my stretch film is more suitable for heavy, tall or unstable pallets. This thicker machine stretch film provides extra resistance against tearing and punctures.
Different stretch percentages explained
Machine stretch film is available with various stretch percentages. The higher the pre-stretch, the more efficiently the film can be used.
150% stretch film
Suitable for standard pallet wrappers without a high pre-stretch system.
250% power stretch film
Power stretch machine film offers greater efficiency because the film can be stretched further without losing stability.
300% power stretch machine film
Suitable for pallet wrappers with high pre-stretch. This helps reduce film consumption while keeping pallets securely wrapped.
Transparent, black and white machine film
Machine stretch film is available in different colours.
Transparent machine stretch film
Suitable when barcodes need to remain visible or pallets need to be checked easily.
Black machine stretch film
Black stretch film limits visibility and is often used for valuable or confidential goods.
White machine stretch film
White machine film is used for products that need to be less sensitive to sunlight or temperature fluctuations.
Various colours of machine stretch film
We also supply machine stretch film in the following colours: red, green, orange, blue and yellow.
Difference between hand stretch film and machine stretch film
Machine stretch film is developed for use on pallet wrappers and has different properties than hand stretch film. Machine stretch film has a higher stretch percentage, and the rolls contain many more metres, so the roll needs to be changed less frequently. Hand stretch film has a core diameter of 50 mm, while machine stretch film is wound on a much stronger core with a diameter of 76 mm.
For manually wrapping pallets, you can also view our hand stretch film.
Which film thickness do you need?
The right thickness depends on the weight and shape of the pallet.
Film thickness guideline
| Application | Recommended thickness |
|---|---|
| Light pallets | 17 my |
| Standard pallets | 20 my |
| Heavy pallets | 23 my |
| Very heavy or sharp loads | 35 my |
Suitable for various pallet wrappers
The machine stretch film in this category is suitable for different types of pallet wrappers, including:
• semi-automatic pallet wrappers
• fully automatic pallet wrappers
• machines with pre-stretch systems
• pallet wrappers with high stretch percentages
Always check which film width, core diameter and stretch ratio are suitable for your machine.
