Enclosed metal tape dispenser
Enclosed metal tape dispenser for 50mm tape
Where equipment takes a beating, an open dispenser is usually the first thing to fail. This enclosed version answers that: the 50 mm roll sits fully housed inside a body of coated sheet steel. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for tape dispensers, and this is the model we point customers to as soon as tools are not being treated gently.
The enclosed steel body
The roll is kept out of harm's way
Because the tape sits inside the housing, it never meets dust, damp or grit from the floor. If the dispenser drops off the bench or ends up underneath a stack of cartons, the metal takes the impact: the roll is not crushed flat and the edges of the web stay straight. You therefore avoid discarding the first few metres of every roll because it has picked up dirt or a dent.
0.8 mm coated sheet steel
The body is built from 0.8 mm sheet steel with a coated finish in red. That wall thickness is heavy enough to hold its shape under daily load — the housing does not spring open when weight is put on it, so the tape guide stays in line. The coating protects the steel against scratches and makes the red dispenser easy to spot on a crowded bench.
Internal steel brake
Inside, a steel brake presses against the roll and keeps constant tension on it. The web leaves the dispenser taut and straight rather than slack and skewed, even when you run it quickly along the seam. Release the pull and the tape does not overrun, so you are not left with a loose tail or a twisted strip.
Cutting and pressing down
Serrated blade in hardened steel
The serrated blade is made from hard steel, so the cut stays clean and square even after hundreds of rolls have passed through. The difference shows most on thicker PVC tape, where a soft blade starts to drag the tape instead of severing it.
Pressure roller bonds the web at once
The pressure roller lays the tape onto the carton in a single movement and presses it home immediately, so the adhesive keys across the full width. That matters more at 50 mm than on narrower webs: the wider the strip, the more air is otherwise trapped along the edges.
Built around standard rolls
The dispenser is matched to rolls 50 mm wide on a 76 mm core, the standard size in our packaging tape range. PP tape with solvent, hot melt or acrylic adhesive runs through as smoothly as PVC tape.

Where this dispenser earns its keep
- Warehouse and despatch: closing cartons out in the aisles, with the dispenser travelling along and ending up among the consignments.
- Building site and outdoor work: dusty surroundings in which an open roll is fouled within the hour.
- Workshop and assembly: a tool that lies among oil, swarf and ironmongery and has to take knocks.
- Returns and repack lines: heavy use by changing staff, where equipment is not always put down with care.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose an enclosed version rather than an open dispenser?
On an open dispenser the roll is exposed: it collects dust and damp, the sides pick up dents, and a fall crushes it so the web no longer runs off straight. Inside the closed housing the roll is shielded and still pulls cleanly after a rough day. In a fixed, clean packing station an open model is fine; once the dispenser travels with the work, the enclosed build pays for itself.
Can the coated sheet steel rust, and how do you keep the dispenser clean?
The coating seals the steel, so it does not rust in a normal indoor environment. If a scratch goes through to bare metal, rust can form there under prolonged damp — dry the dispenser off after outdoor use. Clean it with a damp cloth and, if needed, a mild degreaser. Do not let adhesive residue build up on the pressure roller or around the blade, as it holds dust and makes cutting harder.
What does the internal brake do, and do you notice it while taping?
The brake applies light, constant pressure to the roll so the tape only unwinds when you pull. You notice it in two ways: the web lies taut and wrinkle-free on the carton, and after cutting the end stays at the blade instead of creeping back onto the roll. Over long runs it also means less correcting, because the tape never travels faster than your hand.
How do you load a new roll into an enclosed dispenser?
Open the housing at the side, slide the empty core off the spindle and fit the new roll with the adhesive side facing out. Then guide the end past the internal brake, over the pressure roller to just beyond the blade, and close the housing again. No tools are needed; just check that the roll turns freely before you shut it.
