Where the damage actually happens

Ask a crew leader where the claims come from and the answer is rarely a flat table top. It is the corner of a sideboard, the edge of a marble slab, the foot of a display cabinet. At a point like that the entire weight of the item lands on a few square centimetres, and the only thing that matters is how much material sits in between. This padded blanket puts down the thickest layer you can apply without fully crating the item. Fold it double over a corner and in one movement you have 4000 grams of padding on the most vulnerable spot.

Recycled filling, new outer layer

The filling of this blanket is made entirely from recycled material. The spunbond on the outside is new material: it gives a smooth, closed surface that does not shed lint and does not transfer colour onto lacquered or veneered wood. In a padded blanket those are two distinct layers with two distinct jobs, which is why they are stated separately.

Why the stitching matters

The filling is fixed to the outer layer with zigzag stitching. That is not decoration: a straight seam pulls along a single line under load and can split there, whereas a zigzag spreads the force across its width and gives a little. The white thread on a black blanket also makes it obvious at a glance whether a seam has opened up somewhere, so you can pull a blanket out of rotation before the filling starts shifting.

The three types cover three moments. The 1100 gram storage blanket is for furniture standing still: keeping dust, light and surface dirt off items in a warehouse or showroom. The woven moving blanket of 1300 grams is for furniture on the move: densely woven, high tensile strength, will not tear under a ratchet strap. This padded blanket sits above both and is meant for delicate, high-value furniture and for anything with sharp corners. Use it where damage is expensive and keep the woven blanket for routine work. Combine with furniture covers for upholstery, floor protectors along the route and corner profiles on exposed edges.

Frequently asked questions

Can this padded blanket go in the washing machine?

No. In the drum the filling shifts and clumps; what comes out is a blanket with thick patches and empty panels that no longer cushions evenly. Beat the blanket out in the open air and treat stains locally with a damp cloth and a little neutral soap. Then let it dry flat and completely before folding it away.

Why is this blanket bigger than a standard moving blanket?

183 x 203 cm is the American pad format and it is deliberately more generous than the 150 x 200 cm of the woven blankets. That extra width takes you around a two-seater sofa or a tall cabinet without leaving the bottom edge exposed. On a narrow item, use the surplus length to double the blanket over the corner that matters most.

Does the padding survive ratchet straps?

Yes, and that is exactly what the thickness is for: the filling stops the strap from pressing into the edge of the item. Do tension the strap evenly and avoid running it over a single corner, because there the padding compresses so far that the protection you gained disappears again.

How many of these do I take per job?

On an average household job, crews tend to run four to six padded blankets alongside a stack of woven moving blankets. The padded ones go to the pieces you never want to report: a piano, a display cabinet, a glass table top, a designer sofa. The rest of the load is handled with the cheaper woven version.
