Five metres of blanket without a seam: the extra long storage blanket

A four-metre kitchen worktop covered with three separate blankets comes out with two scuff lines — exactly where the blankets overlap and rub against each other. That is what this size was made for. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for moving blankets and storage blankets, and at 150 x 500 cm you lay one continuous length over the entire piece. The blanket weighs 2500 grams, is grey and is supplied as a single piece.

Why one continuous length makes the difference

With long objects the risk is not impact but movement. Two overlapping blankets shift against each other under vibration or draught and act like sandpaper on a lacquered edge. A five-metre length simply has no such seams. You also stop counting per item: you roll the blanket out along the whole row and you are done. The blanket is woven from a mix of fabrics including wool, hemmed all round so the edges cannot fray, and breathable, so water vapour escapes and no condensation sits against the surface. On a mirror or a lacquered front that is the difference between a clean panel and a dull haze. Both the fibres and the polyester stitching thread are 100% recycled, and the blanket is washable at a maximum of 30 °C.

This is and remains a storage blanket, intended for furniture and material that stands still. If a long panel actually goes into transport and gets lashed down, the heavier 1300 gram moving blanket is the right product: it is more densely woven and takes the tension of a strap. For sharp corners and vulnerable edges there is the padded blanket of 183 x 203 cm. If you work with glass or high gloss, combine the blanket with corner profiles on the ends and protective films on the surface itself. For the floor underneath there is floor covering.

Frequently asked questions

What can I cover with five metres that shorter sizes cannot handle?

Anything longer than three metres that has to stay protected in one piece: kitchen worktops, boardroom tables, counters, door packs and profiles at full length. A row of three or four cabinets is also covered in a single movement.

How does one person handle a five-metre blanket?

Roll it like a runner: start at the short side and roll it into a bundle 150 cm wide. You then unroll it along the item instead of shaking the blanket out. That way one person copes easily with 2500 grams, even in a narrow aisle.

Is 2500 grams not too heavy for a delicate kitchen front?

No. The 2500 grams is in the surface area, not the thickness: per square metre this blanket weighs about the same as the standard storage blanket, just over 300 grams. So it is a soft, light layer over a large area rather than a concentrated load.

Can I use the blanket vertically, for instance along a mirror or glass panel?

Yes, and it is one of its strongest applications. Hang the blanket over the top edge and let it run down both sides so the panel stands between two layers of textile. Then secure it lightly with elastic straps or stretch film, never with tape on the frame or the glass itself.
