Thomas & Betts TY242M natural, 204 x 3.6 mm: the indoor all-rounder

In most workshops and panels there is one size that gets used more than any other, and it is often a tie of around 20 cm with a mid-width strap. The TY242M is that all-rounder: 204 mm long, 3.6 mm wide and in a natural finish that blends in quietly with grey and white wiring. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for Thomas & Betts cable ties, and we supply this Ty-Rap in boxes of 1000 so you are stocked for the projects ahead.

Thanks to its wider strap, the TY242M reaches a tensile strength of 178 N, more than double that of a 2.4 mm tie. The halogen-free polyamide 6.6 (UL94 V-2) is notch-free, and the tail is ribbed so you get a firm grip when pulling it tight. The head holds a grade 316 stainless steel barb that locks the strap at any point. If that dependable lock is what you are after, you will find more choice among our metal tooth cable ties.

Built for everyday installation work

Bundles from 2 to 51 mm are the TY242M's territory. Natural polyamide is not UV-resistant, so use it indoors, where it offers enough strength for heavier cables while the low head sits neatly inside the trunking.

Frequently asked questions about the TY242M

How does it differ from the TY232M?

The TY232M has a narrower 2.4 mm strap and reaches 80 N. At 3.6 mm the TY242M is wider and therefore rated at 178 N, making it the one to choose when bundles are heavier or need to sit tighter.

Is there a black version for outdoor use?

Yes. The TY242MX is the black, UV-resistant version in the same size, sold per 1000. If you need fewer, there is the TY5242MXR in a bag of 100.

Can I release and reuse the TY242M?

No. The metal barb locks the strap permanently, so you cut it to remove it. For bundles that need opening regularly, choose a resealable cable tie.
