Thomas & Betts® ERG50 cable tie tool for slim ties from 2.4 to 4.8 mm

When you are tying thin cables in control cabinets, electronics or wiring harnesses, precision matters more than force. That is exactly what the Thomas & Betts® ERG50 is built for: a lightweight tool of around 350 grams for narrow nylon cable ties from 2.4 to 4.8 mm. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for cable ties and cable tie tools, and we see the ERG50 most often with panel builders, electricians and assembly departments.

How the ERG50 works

Insert the tail of the cable tie into the nose and squeeze the handle. The tool tightens the tie to the preset tension, cuts the tail flush with the head and holds on to the cut-off piece. No sharp protruding ends, no loose scraps left in the cabinet.

Eight tension settings plus a high/low switch

You set the tension in eight steps, from approx. 65 N to approx. 250 N. The high/low force switch lets you match the tool to the job as well: low for delicate data and signal cables, high for bundles that really need to stay put.

Rotating nose for hard-to-reach spots

The nose of the ERG50 rotates, so you can reach the tie at the right angle even in a crowded cabinet or behind a mounting plate – without twisting your wrist.

Comfortable, quiet and built to last

The handle span is adjustable, so the tool fits both small and large hands. The ERG50 is virtually silent in use, is designed for around 150,000 cycles and stores a spare blade inside the tool itself.

Applications and matching cable ties

The ERG50 really comes into its own in panel and switchgear building, electronics assembly, network installations and anywhere you make lots of small bundles. Use it with original Thomas & Betts cable ties or with other nylon ties within the width range. To make cables easy to identify, cable ties with marker label or cable ties in various colours are a handy addition. For indoor use, white cable ties are a popular choice – bear in mind that they are not UV-resistant.

Frequently asked questions about the ERG50

What is the high/low force switch for?

The switch selects a coarser or finer force range. The low position is intended for delicate cables you don't want to compress, the high position for bundles that must be held firmly. Within each position you fine-tune the tension with the adjustment wheel.

Can I adjust the tool to my hand?

Yes. The distance between the handles is adjustable, so the tool stays comfortable to use even if you work with it all day.

What do I do when the blade becomes dull?

A spare blade is stored inside the tool, so you can replace the blade right away without interrupting your work.

Is the ERG50 suitable for 7.6 mm cable ties?

No, the ERG50 goes up to 4.8 mm. For ties of 4.8 to 7.6 mm, use the Thomas & Betts ERG120; for even wider ties up to 12.7 mm, the WT3D.
