Thomas & Betts® - Cable tie tool - WT3D
Thomas & Betts® WT3D: tensioning tool for wide and heavy-duty cable ties
Some bundles call for a cable tie 9 or even 12.7 mm wide: thick power cables, lines on a cable ladder or heavy hoses in industrial settings. Ties that wide never get truly tight by hand. That is what the Thomas & Betts® WT3D is for. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for cable ties and the tools to install them, and for heavy-duty work this is the tool we recommend.
Build up tension at your own pace
The WT3D works differently from the automatic ERG tools. Feed the tail of the tie through the nose and squeeze the handle as many times as needed. With every stroke the tool pulls the tie a little tighter, so you build up the tension yourself and feel exactly when the bundle is secure. Don't over-tighten, so the cables stay undamaged.
Cut off with a half turn
Reached the right tension? Release the handle slightly so the nose stays against the tie head, rotate the tool half a turn and squeeze once more. The tail is cut off and removed from the tool. You decide exactly when to cut.
Rugged metal body
The metal body with plastic hand grips is built for tough conditions on building sites, in industry and in commercial construction. At around 340 grams, it still handles easily.
For self-locking cable ties and lashing ties
The WT3D installs self-locking nylon cable ties up to 12.7 mm wide, such as our heavy-duty cable ties and the heavier Thomas & Betts cable ties. It is also suitable for Thomas & Betts two-piece lashing ties. If a bundle needs to withstand heat, chemicals or extreme weather, look at stainless steel cable ties – these are installed with a dedicated stainless steel tool.
Mainly installing large numbers of 4.8 to 7.6 mm ties? An automatic tool such as the ERG120 will be faster.

Frequently asked questions about the WT3D
How does the WT3D differ from the ERG tools?
The ERG50 and ERG120 tighten automatically to a preset tension and then cut by themselves. With the WT3D you build up the tension by hand and decide when to cut. That is why the WT3D can also handle wide cable ties up to 12.7 mm.
How do I cut off the cable tie?
Release the handle slightly so the nose stays against the tie head, rotate the tool half a turn to the left or right and squeeze the handle. The tail is then cut off.
Can I also use the WT3D for narrow cable ties?
You can, but for narrow ties an automatic tool is faster and gives more consistent tension: the ERG50 for 2.4 to 4.8 mm and the ERG120 for 4.8 to 7.6 mm.
Is the WT3D suitable for stainless steel cable ties?
No. The WT3D is designed for self-locking nylon cable ties and Thomas & Betts two-piece lashing ties. For stainless steel ties, use a tool developed specifically for them.
