View the datasheet for black T&B cable ties here. When a short tie still has to hold firmly, the TY5272MXR is the one we recommend. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for Thomas & Betts cable ties, and this compact heavy-duty size is popular with fitters who secure small but demanding bundles. At 222 mm long it closes around bundles from 6 to 51 mm, while its 534 N (approx. 54 kg) tensile strength puts it in the heavy-duty class. Less tail to pull through the head means less waste than with a long tie.
The strap is made of black, UV-stabilised polyamide 6.6, halogen-free and built for wind and weather. A grade 316 stainless steel barb bites into the smooth, unserrated strap at any point, so you tension it infinitely rather than notch by notch. The barb does not corrode and keeps its grip for years. More ties with this locking principle are listed under our metal tooth cable ties.

Because this tie is short yet handles high loads, it is at its best wherever a compact bundle needs to stay put, indoors or outdoors. The low-profile head does not snag, and the ribbed tail gives you grip while tightening, even when wearing work gloves.
Need a larger bundle? The same series also comes in longer lengths, which you will find among our heavy-duty cable ties. For even tension and a clean, flush cut we recommend a cable tie tool.
Length determines the maximum bundle size, while strap width determines how much force the tie can take. For a small bundle that must be held firmly, the TY5272MXR is the more practical choice: less excess strap, with the same 534 N as the longer ties in this series.
No. The stainless steel barb is designed to hold the strap permanently; the only way to remove it is to cut it. If you need to open bundles regularly, go for resealable cable ties.
According to ABB, the black UV-stabilised polyamide is suitable from -60 °C to +105 °C. Install it at -30 °C or warmer.
