If you only want one cable tie in the van for most outdoor jobs, the TY525MXR is a strong candidate. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for Thomas & Betts cable ties, and this 186 x 4.8 mm size is a frequent order from contractors, landscapers, security installers and municipal field crews. It closes around bundles from 3 to 48 mm and, at 222 N, has plenty in reserve for demanding jobs.

The black strap is made of polyamide 6.6, stabilised against weather and UV radiation and free of halogens. The flat head holds a 316 stainless steel barb that locks into the smooth strap. Unlike an ordinary nylon tie with a plastic pawl, the lock cannot spring back, not even after years outdoors. Other sizes with this system are listed under our metal tooth cable ties.

The tie can be used from -60 °C to +105 °C and can still be fitted in frost down to -30 °C. That makes it usable all year round, from hot roofs to wintry building sites.

Frequently asked questions about the TY525MXR

How much force can the TY525MXR take?

Its tensile strength is 222 N, or about 23 kg. That is the rating of the tie itself; always allow a generous safety margin for hanging loads.

Why is a black cable tie UV resistant and a natural one not?

The black version is stabilised against weather and UV, so the polyamide does not become brittle in the sun. Natural polyamide lacks this protection, which is why the natural TY525MR is meant for indoor use.

What is the advantage over an ordinary nylon cable tie?

On an ordinary tie, a plastic pawl holds the strap; on the TY525MXR, a stainless steel barb does the job. It holds better under tension, vibration and temperature changes, and you can tension steplessly.
