TY242MX from Thomas & Betts: black, weatherproof 204 x 3.6 mm cable tie

Installers who work outside all year round, on roofs, scaffolding and building sites, need a tie that copes with sun, rain and frost. The TY242MX is made for them: a black 204 x 3.6 mm Ty-Rap in a good-value box of 1000. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for Thomas & Betts cable ties, and this mid-width, UV-resistant version is one of the sizes installers reorder from us most often.

The strap is made of black polyamide 6.6, stabilised against weather and UV, halogen-free and rated UL94 V-2. Because the strap has no notches, there are no weak spots where stress builds up. The grade 316 stainless steel barb in the head locks steplessly, is non-magnetic and corrosion-resistant, and keeps its grip in damp conditions too. With 178 N of tensile strength and a bundle range of 2 to 51 mm, the TY242MX holds heavier cables and hoses securely. The black, UV-resistant material is suitable outdoors, and ABB quotes an operating temperature of up to +105 °C.

Frequently asked questions about the TY242MX

Can I fit the TY242MX in winter?

Yes, within limits. According to the ABB catalogue, black UV-resistant polyamide can be installed down to -30 °C. Once in place, its operating range is -60 °C to +105 °C.

Why choose the TY242MX over the TY5242MXR?

It is the same black tie. The TY242MX comes in boxes of 1000 and works out cheaper for regular use; the TY5242MXR in a bag of 100 is handy when you only need a small number.

What is the advantage of a notch-free strap?

On a strap without notches, tension spreads evenly across the full width. There are no weak points, and you can lock the tie at any position rather than tooth by tooth.
