How do you fasten a cable tie?

A cable tie – also known as a tie-wrap or bundling band – closes with a self-locking ratchet closure. As soon as you push the pointed end through the head and it passes the first tooth, the band can no longer move back. You tighten the tie by hand or use a cable tie plier, which pulls the band to a preset tension and immediately cuts off the excess end flush.

Can I reuse the cable tie?

No, the self-locking ratchet closure is permanent and therefore for single use. Cutting is required to remove the band.

Will the cable tie damage my cables?

Not with normal tightening; the wide band spreads the pressure. Do not tighten the tie more than necessary to protect the insulation of sensitive cables.

Can I tighten the cable tie by hand or do I need a tool?

Both are possible. By hand you simply pull the tie tight; with a cable tie plier you tighten it to a preset, even tension and cut the end off flush in the same motion.
