How do you fasten a cable tie?

The closure works on the ratchet principle: the toothed end slides through the head and clicks into place tooth by tooth, without running back. Tightening by hand is sufficient for most jobs; for larger quantities you work faster and more evenly with a cable tie plier.

Frequently asked questions

Will the cable tie damage my cables?

Not with normal tightening; the wide band spreads the pressure. Do not tighten the tie more than necessary to protect the insulation of sensitive cables.

Can I tighten the cable tie by hand or do I need a tool?

Both are possible. By hand you simply pull the tie tight; with a cable tie plier you tighten it to a preset, even tension and cut the end off flush in the same motion.

What else are cable ties used for besides cabling?

Besides cables, they are used to bundle hoses, pipes and nets, and to temporarily fasten material to fencing, racks or structures.
