This size sits right next to the familiar 400 x 300 x 150 mm format, but it differs on two points: the box measures 400 x 300 x 160 mm, so it is 10 mm taller, and the wall is 4 mm corrugated board instead of 3 mm. That extra centimetre sounds like very little, yet it is often exactly what you need to fit a layer of cushioning above the contents without the top flaps bulging. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for single wall cardboard boxes, and this height sits alongside the rest of our folding boxes.
Electronics and appliances: delicate contents that deserve a buffer all round.
Parts with sharp edges: 4 mm board is far less likely to be punctured.
Consignments handled repeatedly: more spring-back during every transfer.
C-flute has a coarser fluting layer than the B-flute used in the 3 mm quality. The wall becomes thicker and springs back harder, so a knock on the side is absorbed better and the box leaves the sorting centre looking neater. In return, C-flute asks for slightly more cushioning volume, because the contents should not press against a hard wall.

Yes, mostly when closing the box. If the contents come close to the top flaps, 160 mm gives enough clearance for those flaps to fall flat. Flat flaps tape up better and stack more neatly.
The pack size follows the board thickness. A pack of 4 mm board builds up more height per box, so a bundle of 20 stays easy to carry and to store.
With 4 mm board a second trip usually goes well, as long as the corners and flaps are undamaged. When reusing a box, always check whether the bottom flaps still feel firm.
