This size comes in 3 mm and in 4 mm, and this is the thicker of the two. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for shipping boxes in single wall board, and we see customers reach for the 4 mm version precisely when the model is low and wide. The reason is the base: a large surface with little height gives way under weight sooner than a cube, and a C-flute keeps the internal size of 310 x 215 x 100 mm in shape even when the box is full. More formats are listed under folding boxes.
C-flute has a coarser flute structure than the B-flute used in the 3 mm range. That produces a taller, springier wall which absorbs the knocks of a sorting line and returns to shape after an impact. The internal size stays the same as on the thinner version, only the outer dimensions run a millimetre wider per side. If you already run the 3 mm format, both qualities can be used side by side without any change to the packing line.
Heavier flat goods: books, tiles, sheet metal and parts kits.
Fragile items: the thicker wall cushions more than 3 mm.
Consignments with transhipment: parcels that are moved several times en route.

A thicker, springier wall and a more rigid base. On light consignments you will barely notice it, on heavy or sharp-edged contents you certainly will.
No. C-flute is a single flute layer between two flat liners and works out at roughly 4 mm. In double wall shipping boxes two flute layers sit on top of each other and the wall grows to around 7 mm.
Slightly less than with 3 mm, because the wall itself cushions. Going without padding altogether is not an option, since contents that can slide will damage themselves whatever the board thickness.
