Flat products are best packed in a flat box. 700 x 450 x 160 mm offers a generous footprint with a low build, so textiles, bed linen, frames, posters and thin panels lie in it without much filling. The quality is 3 mm with a B-flute. That finer flute gives a smooth outer face which holds labels well, and the board is lighter than the 4 mm version. That keeps the shipment weight down, and 25 boxes make one manageable pack.

A large base, so watch the load spread

A flat box with this footprint has one weak point: the base. Always lay heavier goods spread out rather than on a single spot. If the load is concentrated, or the contents get considerably heavier, double wall shipping boxes are the safer option.

Stacking

Filled boxes in this format stack two to three layers high, always squarely on top of each other so the corners carry the pressure. If more goes on top, slide a flat sheet of board between the layers so the pressure spreads over the whole face. Suitable material sits with the protective and filling materials.

What is the difference between 3 and 4 mm single wall?

The 4 mm quality has a higher flute and therefore more cushioning and stacking strength. The 3 mm version is lighter, flatter and cheaper, and is fine for contents that are not heavy.

How much filling material does a flat model need?

Little, and that is the gain of this format. If your product sits almost at internal dimension, a single layer of paper or a flat foam sheet holds it in place.

Do labels stick well to a B-flute?

They do. The fine flute gives a smoother liner than a C-flute, so labels lie flat and the edges do not lift in transit.
