Single wall box 600 x 150 x 150 mm - the tube format for rod-shaped goods

A square cross section of 150 by 150 mm over a length of 600 mm makes 600 x 150 x 150 mm the box for anything long and slim. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for single wall cardboard boxes, and we see this model used mainly for pipes, rods, profiles, rolled drawings, flag poles and long light fittings. The full range sits with the other cardboard boxes.

Compared with a round tube, the rectangular shape wins on handling. It does not roll away, it lies still on a conveyor and it takes a label without any tricks. Most carriers set the limit for standard parcel traffic somewhere between 100 and 120 cm, so at 60 cm you stay comfortably inside the normal rates. A filled box of this size can be carried in one hand, as long as you grip it in the middle.

Does this length still count as a standard parcel?

As a rule it does. Surcharges for oversized items usually start at around one metre of edge length. Check the terms of your own carrier before you settle on a format.

How do I stop the contents sliding about?

Fill the two end faces, because that is where damage starts. A ball of paper or a block of foam at each end keeps a rod exactly where you put it.

Can I join two boxes together for extra length?

We would advise against it. The joint becomes the weak point and carriers treat the result as one long item. Pick a box that takes the full length instead and run tape along the seams.
