Cardboard box 186 x 124 x 88 mm - a close fit for books and printed matter

The dimensions 186 x 124 x 88 mm look arbitrary, yet they are matched to the pocket book format of roughly 110 x 180 mm, with just enough room around it. That makes this a box for books, diaries, folders, bound printed matter and flat articles that would slide about in a box that is too large. Because the contents fit closely, you need little void fill and the shipment stays light. You see that back in the volumetric weight at your carrier. Meanwhile the 3 mm B-flute absorbs the knocks a parcel picks up in a sorting centre. Printed matter copes well with pressure but badly with bumped corners, and that is exactly where the fluted layer does its work.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the dimensions not round numbers?

This format comes straight off the board blank and is matched to common product sizes. The contents therefore sit more closely than in a box built to rounded centimetres.

Can I put several books in one box?

Yes, up to the point where the 88 mm height is filled. Lay the heaviest copies at the bottom and top up the last centimetres so nothing can shift. One strip of tape across the top seam is enough at this height.

When is a postal box the better choice?

When your contents really are flat and the 88 mm height is never used. In that case have a look at the postal boxes, which are built for flat shipments.
