Cardboard boxes 780 x 580 x 400 mm – designed around the Euro pallet

The footprint of this box is no arbitrary choice. At 780 x 580 mm, exactly two fit side by side on a 1200 x 800 mm Euro pallet, with no overhang and no wasted space between the columns. That adds up with every layer. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for cardboard boxes supplying businesses that plan their pallet loads to the centimetre; this is one of the sizes that came out of that.

The 400 mm height keeps a full pallet workable: three layers come to 1200 mm of cartons plus the pallet itself.

Carrying

With 181 litres of space, this is a box you no longer lift on your own once it is full. The 780 mm length forces you to hold the box away from your body, which multiplies the load on your back fourfold. Plan this size as a two-person job, or load the boxes straight onto the pallet and move them with a pallet truck.

Why double wall at this surface area

A base of almost half a square metre is a large span to bridge. Where single wall shipping boxes start to sag at this size, the 7 mm BC flute keeps the base flat – both when lifting and under the pressure of two layers on top.

Frequently asked questions

Does this size really fit on a Euro pallet without overhang?

Yes. Two boxes side by side come to 1160 x 780 mm, which stays within the 1200 x 800 mm of the pallet. You can stretch wrap tightly without the film running over a protruding corner.

How many 400 mm layers can I build safely?

Three layers is usual with normal contents and stays below a workable height. With heavy contents, it is not the board but the bottom layer that limits the stack; add a layer pad in that case.

What if my contents are heavier than the boxes can handle?

Then a pallet box is the logical step. It transfers the load through the pallet rather than through the board of the bottom layer.
