At this size, your carrier will almost certainly charge on volume rather than actual weight. Internal dimensions of 650 x 550 x 500 mm amount to just over 178 litres, which at the usual conversion factor comes to a volumetric weight of about 36 kg – even if the box only contains eight kilos of light parts. The double BC flute carries the stacking load through the four corners, so stack boxes directly on top of each other. Two fit side by side on a Euro pallet with room to spare. If you are dealing with more than three layers of heavy contents, look at pallet boxes instead: the load then rests on the pallet.

The board is not the limiting factor; your own lifting limit and the carrier's rates usually are. Up to about 30 kg, the double wall keeps the box in shape with ease, provided the contents load the base evenly.

At 178 litres, most parcel carriers charge on volumetric weight. Weigh and measure a test shipment before adding this size to your standard range.

How do I stop a large box from bulging?

Fill the box right into the corners so the walls stay supported, and tape both the bottom and top seams. An H-seal with strong packing tape keeps the flaps tight against the contents.
