Anyone who loads boxes onto pallets knows that a square footprint makes the maths easier. Each box can be turned a quarter, so you can interlock the layers and make the stack as a whole more rigid. This model measures 400 x 400 mm across and 300 mm high. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for double wall shipping boxes, and this is one of the sizes most often chosen for pallet loads.

An equal-sided footprint also means the contents have the same amount of space on both sides. You need less void fill than with an elongated model, because no long empty strips are left beside the product.

How high can I stack these boxes?

The box itself is rarely the limit; the weight of the contents decides. With normal filling, double wall board will hold a full pallet stack. If things get really heavy, place a layer pad every few layers.

Why is a square box more practical on a pallet?

Because you can cross-stack the layers. With a rectangular box the orientation is fixed; square boxes can be rotated per layer, which locks the stack together and prevents it from toppling.

Can I combine this size with pallet boxes?

That is common practice. Individual shipments go in these boxes, the consolidated load in a pallet box. Because the footprint is an exact fraction of the pallet size, the two fit well together.
