Cardboard boxes 385 x 285 x 285 mm – equal width and height

On this model, width and height are identical: 285 mm, with a length of 385 mm. It sounds like a detail, but it changes the way you pack. The contents sit in the middle with equal space on three sides, so a layer of void fill is the same thickness everywhere and no side ends up too tight. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for double wall shipping boxes, and we see these proportions chosen specifically for fragile items.

It is made from 7 mm double wall corrugated board in BC quality. Two fluted layers between three flat liners absorb an impact before it reaches the contents, and still keep the box in shape afterwards – even with another layer on top of it on the pallet.

Frequently asked questions

How much void fill do I need all round?

For fragile contents, three to five centimetres on every side is a common rule of thumb. At this size, that still leaves you well over 30 x 20 cm of usable product space.

Is this box more heavily loaded than the lower version?

Usually, yes, as the extra height tends to get filled in practice. So make sure the bottom seam is sealed with strong packing tape before you lift the box.

Why isn't this a perfect cube?

The 385 mm length follows from the board layout and from what typically goes inside. A true cube is rarely efficient to produce and often creates more empty space than you would think.
