The 385 x 285 mm base with a height of 172 mm is made for exactly that. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for cardboard boxes, and this size is widely used for assembled shipments.

A wide, low model relies on its base, which has to span a large area without sagging when you lift the box by its sides. 7 mm BC flute double wall board makes that surface rigid, so the contents stay flat instead of sliding towards the middle.

A standard A4 lever arch file of around 320 x 285 mm lies flat on the base, but it is a tight fit in the width. Measure your own files, as edge and spine dimensions vary by brand.

How do I stop the contents from shifting?

Place the heaviest parts in the middle and fill the edges. In a low box, contents mainly slide sideways, so pay particular attention to the space along the long sides.

Can I also use this size for storage on shelving?

That works well. The limited height means you can fit more layers per shelf, while the double wall board absorbs the stacking pressure from the boxes above.
