Will filled boxes stay upright for months?

In a dry, climate-controlled space, yes. Corrugated board absorbs moisture and loses strength as a result, so don't place the stack against a cold external wall or directly on a concrete floor.

Does this size fit standard shelving?

With the common shelf depths of 400 and 500 mm, this box fits comfortably, with enough margin to lift it in and out with both hands. Do check the clear height between the shelves.

When should I look at a larger model?

As soon as you store more than about twenty kilos per box, or the contents can no longer be lifted in one go, pallet boxes with a base board on a pallet are a more practical choice.
