Thirteen decimetres long and no more than 200 by 200 mm at each end: this box has one clear task – getting long, slim goods to their destination straight and intact. Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for double wall shipping boxes, and this extreme of the range is ordered mainly by suppliers of profiles, tubes and mouldings.

At this ratio of length to cross-section, single wall is not an option: a 3 mm wall kinks over 1.3 metres. The 7 mm double wall BC flute turns the box into a tubular profile that shares the load.

Length surcharge and handling

At 1.3 metres, this box falls outside the standard parcel size with virtually every parcel carrier. Expect a length surcharge or manual handling, as the shipment cannot go over the sorting conveyor. Check the limits in your own carrier agreements: sometimes ten centimetres shorter saves a whole rate band. If you ship several at once, bundling them on a long pallet is the cheapest route.

Where does a long box like this usually break?

In the middle and at the corners of the ends. Support the contents along their full length by bundling the bars together, and leave a few centimetres of padding at the ends.

Will a 1.3 metre product fit exactly?

The 1300 mm is the internal dimension, so in theory yes. Ideally, allow two to three centimetres of play, so you can add padding and the box closes flat.

How do I seal the box over this length?

Tape the length seam in one continuous strip and secure both ends crosswise. For larger quantities, work with a dispenser and a 50 mm wide roll of packing tape.
