## Thomas & Betts stainless steel cable ties for harsh environments

Since 2007, we have been the go-to wholesaler for [Thomas & Betts cable ties](en/closure-materials/cable-ties/thomas-betts-cable-ties), including for applications where a nylon tie is not enough. Ty-Met cable ties are made entirely of stainless steel and lock with a ball mechanism: a small ball in the head clamps the strap as soon as you let go. Quick to install and resistant to extreme temperatures.

You can choose between two grades. Type 304 is the all-round version for industry and outdoor work. Type 316 (marine grade) is designed for highly corrosive environments such as offshore, coastal areas and chemical plants. Some ties come with a black polyester coating.

Width determines strength: at 7.9 mm wide, tensile strength is more than double that of the 4.6 mm version. Choose grade 316 whenever salt or aggressive substances are involved. The coated version has a smooth black finish and can be used up to +150 °C.

## Frequently asked questions about stainless steel cable ties

### What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?

Grade 316 contains molybdenum, which makes it more resistant to salt and chemicals. For general industrial and outdoor use, grade 304 is sufficient.

### How does a ball lock work?

The head holds a small ball. As the strap is pushed through, the ball rolls along; when the strap pulls back, the ball wedges it in place. The tie is secured instantly.

### Can a stainless steel cable tie be reused?

No. A stainless steel tie is designed for one-time, permanent fastening; once the tail is cut off it cannot be reused.
