These black cable ties are used across a wide range of industries, including for:

- bundling power and data cables;
- installing cabling in cabinets, machines and installations;
- attaching cabling to rails, cable trays and frames;
- organising and labelling cable harnesses;

In practice, this size is common in automotive and transport, exhibition construction and signage, and telecom and data centres.

## How do you fasten a cable tie?

The closure works on a ratchet principle: the toothed end slides through the head and clicks into place tooth by tooth, without slipping back. Hand-tightening is enough for most jobs; for larger quantities you work faster and more evenly with a [cable tie plier](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/cable-ties_pliers).

You will find all black sizes in [our range of black cable ties](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/black-tyraps). For the food and pharmaceutical industry there are [detectable cable ties](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/detectable-tyraps). For temporary bundling and cordoning off, [our duct tape](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/tape/duct-tape-order-here) is a handy addition.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I tighten the cable tie by hand or do I need a tool?

Both are possible. By hand you tighten the tie easily; with a cable tie plier you tighten it to a preset, even tension and trim the end flush in the same action.

### Will the cable tie damage my cables?

Not with normal tightening; the wide strap distributes the pressure. Do not tighten the tie more than necessary to protect the insulation of sensitive cables.

### Can I reuse the cable tie?

No, the self-locking ratchet closure is permanent and therefore for single use. Cutting is required to remove the strap.
