## How do you fasten a cable tie?

A cable tie closes with a self-locking ratchet closure. Once you push the pointed end through the head and it passes the first tooth, the strap can no longer move back. You tighten the tie by hand or use a [cable tie tool](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/cable-ties_pliers), which pulls the strap to a preset tension and cuts off the excess end flush right away.

### What else are cable ties used for besides cabling?

Besides cables, they are used to bundle hoses, pipes and nets and to temporarily attach material to fencing, racks or structures.

### Are black cable ties suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, the black version contains a UV-stabilising additive and is therefore resistant to sunlight. Natural/white ties are mainly intended for indoor use.

### Does the cable tie damage my cables?

Not with normal tightening; the wide strap spreads the pressure. Do not tighten the tie more than necessary to protect the insulation of sensitive cables.
