## How do you fasten a cable tie?

A cable tie closes with a self-locking ratchet closure. Once you push the pointed end through the head and it passes the first tooth, the strap can no longer move back. You tighten the tie by hand or use a [cable tie tool](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/cable-ties_pliers), which pulls the strap to a preset tension and cuts off the excess end flush right away.

You will find all black sizes in [our range of black cable ties](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/black-tyraps). Would you like the ties printed with text or a logo? Then choose [printed cable ties](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/closure-materials/cable-ties/printed-cable-ties). For temporary bundling and cordoning off, [duct tape](https://www.kortpack.nl/en/tape/duct-tape-order-here) is a handy addition.

## Frequently asked questions

### What else are cable ties used for besides cabling?

Besides cables, they are used to bundle hoses, pipes and nets and to temporarily attach material to fencing, racks or structures.

### Can I tighten the cable tie by hand or do I need a tool?

Both work. By hand you simply pull the tie tight; with a cable tie tool you tighten it to a preset, even tension and cut the end off flush in the same action.

### Does the cable tie damage my cables?

Not with normal tightening; the wide strap spreads the pressure. Do not tighten the tie more than necessary to protect the insulation of sensitive cables.
